[Ottawa Citizen] The City of Ottawa’s chief of public affairs is leaving, after only three months on the job.
Donna Balkan, an experienced journalist and communications manager, will work her last day on Friday.
Ms. Balkan said she made the decision while spending time with her family at a cottage in Nova Scotia, looking out at the Atlantic Ocean. She said she had to decide whether she wanted to make a long-term commitment to such a large city or pursue other interests with a smaller organization. She said she enjoys having time to write, plan and think, and there isn’t much time to do that when managing communications for such a large organization.
Ms. Balkan was once a reporter with the Citizen and with CBC Radio, then worked as a communications manager with the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Canadian Human Rights Commission and the Canada Council for the Arts.
