Apology Time Again

It was 94 years ago on May 23, 1914, that the Komagata Maru arrived in Vancouver, with 376 immigrants on board.

Their arrival opened one of the darkest chapters in British Columbia’s and Canada’s human rights history.

Looking up at roughly 100 Indo-Canadian leaders and media in the gallery, de Jong offered the government’s apology for the tragic event.

The apology was overdue, but perhaps now we can move forward from this painful time.
