Edmonton Journal – On July 1, 1960, proposing his Bill of Rights in Parliament, Diefenbaker concluded with these much-quoted words: “I am a Canadian, a free Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship God in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and for all mankind.”

Toronto Star – The union representing employees at an embattled human rights agency said the chairman of its board of directors imposed a gag order preventing staff from speaking about an internal crisis.

“There is a witch hunt happening at Rights and Democracy,” Micheline Levesque, vice-president of the union representing employees of the Montreal-based agency told MPs on Tuesday.
