Iran is the co-chair of the Durban II preparatory committee. Its president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has described the Nazi holocaust as a “myth” and compared Israel’s strikes against Hezbollah and Hamas terrorists to Hitler’s tactics, has publicly declared the goal of eliminating the Jewish state from the face of the earth. He also said that “Israel, this stain of disgrace, will be purged from the center of the Islamic world—and this is attainable.” If any comparison to the genocidal Hitler is apt, Ahmadinijad fits the bill.
It is no coincidence that at a prominent book fair, held in Frankfurt, Germany no less, Iran’s booth has prominently displayed the same kind of anti-Semitic propaganda that so enthralled the Nazis. This included the classic screeds Protocols of the Elders of Zion and Henry Ford’s The International Jew: The World’s Foremost Problem. The Iranian state also published its own Jewish conspiracy theories in a book entitled Tale of the ‘Chosen People’ and the Legend of ‘Historical Right’. Its cover bore a red Star of David superimposed on a gray death’s head and a yellow map of the world.

The federal minister in charge of Canada’s multiculturalism file cautioned an anti-racism conference yesterday against exploiting the power of human rights commissions to silence offensive speech.
Addressing the annual gathering of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF) in Calgary, Jason Kenney, a Cabinet member and Secretary of State for Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity, labelled “dangerous” the “illiberal tactics” employed by some activists in the name of tolerance.

Internal U.N. documents show investigators “ignored, minimized or shelved” numerous charges of gold smuggling and arms trading by its peacekeepers in Congo, an international rights organization said Friday.
Allegations of such misconduct by peacekeepers in the war-ravaged Central African country first surfaced more than a year ago.

Human Rights Watch was baffled by these findings, which seriously downplayed the extent of the problems. According to our research, a ring of Congolese army officers, Kenyan traders, and Pakistani peacekeepers was involved in smuggling millions of dollars of gold from Ituri. The available evidence suggested that the assistance provided by Pakistani peacekeepers went well beyond one individual, a finding confirmed by the BBC in its own investigation.

The basic strategy of the enemies of freedom in Canada has been to tie freedom’s defenders up in courts — kangaroo courts by preference. They may or may not have erred, tactically, in creating the headline cases I have mentioned above, which have helped rally many against them who are not among the usual friends of Messieurs Steyn and Levant. It is a high-risk enterprise for the HRCs, but the rewards if they succeed are substantial: for they will have eliminated the very possibility of dissent against the various fanatic leftist, feminist, gay activist, and Islamist agendas with which they openly ally themselves.
